I was one of the beginning wave of women funeral directors in New York. It tells of my childhood going to funeral directing school and what that was all about. Getting my license and working with my dad who had, had a stroke. It affected his mind, his emotions and his body. If anyone has lived with a stroke victim knows it is certainly an interesting thing.
It was also an interesting thing being one of the spearheads breaking into an all male environment. I loved working with the men. I was Blessed to be the first, but what I loved the most was coming to realize that the industry needed more, the families needed more. So, I gave a seminar on “Loss Grief and Healing”. I was the first to do it, to care for the living and the grieving process in the whole area. I can’t speak for the the rest of New York. Being old school I have watched things change greatly .
